CROWNS
What are dental crowns?
Dental crowns fit over the top tooth acting like a cast. They cover and protect teeth that have lost a large section of tooth structure due to tooth decay, cracks, fractures or root canal therapy. These are recommended when a traditional tooth filling will not suffice.
Crowns can be made of pure porcelain, porcelain that’s is fused to metal, or gold. At Elevated Dental we will educate you on the benefits of each so you can make an informed decision on which type will help you achieve your functional and cosmetic demands.
How are they made?
We are excited to now offer same day crowns in office. You will have a 3D scan of the prepared tooth and then the crown is designed in house by Dr. Buttars. It will then be milled while you take a short 30-40 break to get some fresh air or watch it get made. The crown then will be placed in your mouth and adjusted as needed to match your specific feel, bite and cosmetic demands. Occasionally, Dr. Buttars will recommend the crown is made in a separate lab. If that is the case, the scan will be sent to the lab where they will custom design your crown. The crown is then permanently cemented in place on a subsequent appointment. In the meantime, a temporary crown is cemented in place while your permanent crown is made.
